Club History

The club was formed in 1909 by a group of ladies including two from the Wheeler family who (the story goes) became fed up with their men folk going off to enjoy themselves and decided to do something positive about it. So tennis in Hallow had come to stay and this is now one of the oldest established village clubs in the country.
Apart from World War 1 and 2 the club proceeded at a modest level and after World War 2 had three grass courts and a wooden shed on the present site. The accent was on the social side, with Sunday afternoon teas a regular feature, and Jack Wheeler was one of the longest serving club presidents. Difficulties over maintenance of the courts began to threaten the future of the club and by 1963 a meeting was called, a grant was sought and obtained together with a loan from the LTA and in 1964 three new hard courts were laid. From that moment things looked up and membership rose and when the bowling club finished we were able to add two extra courts, then flood lighting and a new pavilion. Dedicated officers and committees over the years have ensured progress and now the club can offer first class coaching, especially for the youngsters. With your support we look forward to the next 100 years
